The Glebe Road Refugee Committee continues to be in regular contact with the family we are sponsoring. Unfortunately, the conflict involving Iran has had a significant impact on them, as it has on so many others living in poverty throughout the region.
Thousands of refugees who had been living in Iran have crossed into neighbouring countries, placing additional strain on already fragile economies and humanitarian systems. The conflict has disrupted transportation routes, increased fuel prices, and raised the cost of imported goods. As a result, many families are facing higher food and living costs at a time when poverty is already widespread.
Our refugee family, like many others, is experiencing the effects of severe shortages of housing, employment opportunities, food, fuel, and public services.
Our refugee family, like many others, is experiencing the effects of severe shortages of housing, employment opportunities, food, fuel, and public services. The conflict has also diverted international attention and resources away from refugee support efforts. At the same time, refugees continue to face uncertainty, border tensions, and increasing challenges in neighbouring countries. Women and girls remain especially vulnerable, facing extensive restrictions on education, employment, travel, and participation in public life.
We continue to hold in prayer both our refugee family and a member of our Glebe Committee who has close family members in Iran. We pray that God’s Spirit will bring them comfort, strength, and hope during this frightening and uncertain time.
Our committee continues to work closely with our local Member of Parliament and with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada as we seek to advance the family’s application to come to Canada.
Financial donations to support our refugee family are greatly appreciated and especially needed at this time. We ask that you continue to remember our refugee family, and all those affected by the conflict, in your prayers. In hope and prayer,
Glebe Road United Church Refugee Sponsorship Committee
