The Welcome to Canada Project

The Welcome to Canada project was created by college friends Ashlynn and Faryal as a way to welcome refugees coming to Canada from Afghanistan. Knowing that children and their families are suffering is absolutely heartbreaking. After discussing how horrible we feel not being able to help those who are trapped in Afghanistan we decided to do something to welcome the families who would be coming to Canada. As early childhood educators our thoughts keep drifting to the children. We can only imagine how confusing this must be for children to be moving to a new place at such short notice. Upon arriving in Canada they will be quarantined to a hotel room with their families before being able to explore their new environment. Our goal is to give as many children as possible a “SMILE BOX” shortly after they arrive in Canada. We hope to fill each box with school supplies as well as new and gently used toys. Our goal is to bring a smile to their face during this difficult time in their life as well as to keep them entertained as they complete the mandatory hotel quarantine. We are also hoping to raise enough funds to be able to provide each family with a food hamper as well as hygiene products once they settle into their new home. Glebe Road has an ongoing partnership with The Welcome To Canada Project and we hope that you will find it in your heart to help us with this project. We welcome donations of gently used clothing for all ages, items for smile boxes, or new hygiene products. If you would like to make a money donation please click the Go Fund Me Link below. Thank you all in advance.

Refugee Sponsorship

When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not ill-treat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God.

– Leviticus 19:33-34

Glebe Refugee Committee

We believe God calls all of us to welcome the stranger in our midst. For us at Glebe that takes the particular form of sponsoring refugees.

If you would like to support this ministry, please consider donating to the refugee sponsorship fund through our Canada Helps Page.
