Community Life & Pastoral Care

Glebe keeps both old and new traditions, keeping in touch through phone and email networks, and with personal visits. At the end of Advent and Easter services, congregation members pick up poinsettias or lilies from the altar area, and deliver them to members who are home-bound.

We joke that a lot of our congregational life takes place around food. After Sunday services, our fellowship time in the Hearth Room is very special, with everyone from babies to seniors enjoying the fun. Each month we also have both a weekday lunch at one local restaurant and a Saturday brunch at another. Annually, a group travels together for a play and meal at either Stratford or Shaw Festival.

Meals follow special services during the year: Welcome-Back in September, Anniversary in October, Carols by Candlelight in Advent, and our Welcome-Summer in June.

Faith Formation

Children & Youth
The children and youth of Glebe Road United are a source of joy and inspiration for our congregation. Although small in number, this enthusiastic group makes a joyful noise in church and in Sunday school often asks the probing questions that help us to better appreciate why we need to be more like children when we come to worship God.

Adults
Our book study groups tackle challenging questions. How do our beliefs fit in today’s complex and largely secular world? What does faith mean? How do we remain hopeful, and share that hope with others? We have read and discussed books such as The Heart of Christianity by Marcus Borg, The Emerging Christian Way: Thoughts, Stories & Wisdom for a Faith of Transformation edited by Michael Schwartzentruber, The Magdalene Moment by Joanna Manning, and Nature Reborn: The Ecological and Cosmic Promise of Christian Theology by Paul Santmire.
