Panel discussion on the Environment

May, 4, 2008

Featuring:

Ambury Stuart and 3 of his colleagues - some from his days when he was an Environmental Engineer.

  • A senior scientist from Environment Canada

  • A hydrologist from western Canada, now retired and teaching in a Christian school in Edmonton

  • Ambury's professor of environmental ethics from St Michaels University in the Toronto School of Theology

An excerpt from Ambury's sermon:

I find it so ironic that this Ascension Sunday is the day we at Glebe Road and our neighbouring churches have chosen to look at the ecological crises and the role of the church as the human species grapples with the growing threat of plants and animals becoming extinct in our day. Environmentalists outside the Christian family have been very critical of us precisely because of things like Ascension Sunday. They claim, with some justification we must admit, that we spend too much time worrying about heaven and the next life that we ignore our Christian calling in this life. They claim, with some justification, that like the disciples on the first Ascension Sunday, we spend too much time looking up at the empty sky, and too little time reaching out to our neighbours all around us.
