About Us

Rev. Dr. Ambury Stuart, Minister

Ambury Stuart has been minister at Glebe Road since he was ordained in 2004. Before that he had been a professional scientist for over 30 years and brings his training and experience in environmental science into his work at Glebe Road in a number of ways. His sermons are enriched by a lifetime of struggle to reconcile his faith with his scientific work.

Those who travel with him on our common faith journey together experience a challenging and demanding road with many questions, a few insights and no pat answers. His particular application of his faith to the ecological crises of our day brings both scientific and religious issues together in a mix that is of interest to everyone.

Ambury is married to Vicki, and their son Jamie has just moved out into his own apartment. Life continues to amaze.

Mission Statement

Situated in the heart of a huge city, Glebe Road United Church offers an oasis on Yonge Street in Toronto for those who are seeking a place apart for spiritual growth.  We welcome absolutely everyone. A special source of joy and challenge for us is a growing group of children and infants in our church school program.

As a community, we are guided by our study of Judeo-Christian scripture, strengthened through prayer and meditation and music and in a sharing of our common experiences.

In all, it is our desire that we may grow to reflect the presence of Jesus Christ in our care for each other, in our care for all who are in need, and that our lives as a whole may reflect our respect for all God’s creation.

Our Community

Glebe Road United is a small, close-knit community including singles of all ages, seniors who themselves were in Sunday school here, and families who bring a new generation of children to us.

We are always delighted to see new faces, and hope we reflect that in our welcome. After church each Sunday, we gather in our Hearth Room for beverages and fellowship. It is a chance to keep up our current relationships and develop new friendships.
